Useful And Hilarious

Six months (or 200 odd days) can be a long time to be apart. Here are some of our silly ideas to keep the ideas fresh and funny. Of course, some are ridiculous but you may find one or two that help with ideas.

Why not send us some of your ideas………….

FRISBEES

This gives them something to play hard at as a team. Something to fill up their time when they are off shift.

PACK OF CARDS / BOARD GAMES

The small and pocket varieties are best or the battery/electronic type of brain games.  i Pod

BABY SCANS

Send scans to make him feel involved in the pregnancy. Also give him all the information you get at antenatal classes and medical check ups.

PLASTER IMPRINTS / PAINTED HAND and FOOTPRINTS

Do these of feet and hands of young children and date them so they can compare their growth.

PAINTINGS

Send ones that children have done both at school and at home.

KIDDIES PREZZIES

Allow children to choose something different to send. It may not be the sort of choice you would make but it contains the child’s own love of picking it and makes the child feel proud that it is “their” present.

TEDDY BEAR OR CUDDLY TOY

They are real softies inside so having one is not as unusual as you may think. Spray your perfume on it and fix little love notes on it. Little finishing touches to make it special. They really do snuggle up with them at night.

PARAPHERNALIA

Obviously you will send cards for birthdays and other events but try to send extra things. Christmas decorations to hang on the bed. Santa hats and stocking for the end of the bed. A cake, paper hats and masks for Christmas, Easter and Birthdays. Include silly toys and whistles and don’t forget party bags so that they can throw their own party with their mates. These do mean a lot. Keep expensive presents at home to get on their return. Don’t send party poppers as they are illegal and if you do send crackers remove the tab. It sounds illogical but they come under the list of “explosive devices” Sorry but that’s Customs for you. They will have to say, “BANG” when they pull them!

T.SHIRT

You could get a photo of yourself printed on it (haha) or maybe the kids. Many photo shops have a machine that does that. Personalize it in other ways with writing and painting on it. You could get all family and friends to sign it.

PILLOWCASE

Get 2. Create HIS and HERS pillowcases. Put a photo of him on one and a photo of you on the other. What a lovely way to go to bed with you both snuggling up with the “partner”. Don’t forget to spray it with a touch of light perfume and you put his cologne on yours. An extra “something” to get you both through the lonely hours.

SINGLE DUVET COVER OR LIGHTWEIGHT SLEEPINGBAG LINER

These can be used for sleeping in when their sleeping bags are too hot for them during the hot season.

SMALL TOWEL

The darker the better !

FLANNEL

KISSED HANKY

Get a handkerchief and do lots of kisses on it. He can hold your kisses of love next to his heart.

A WISHBONE

Tie a pretty little ribbon onto it with a tag saying “WISH YOU WERE HERE”

UNDIES

Either practical ones or a cheeky pair of yours. You could send a stocking with a message telling them to take care of it and find the other one when he returns.

THERMALS    Long sleeved  thermal vests & Long Johns...they aren't exactly a fashion statement but in the winter months it's below freezing so at least you know they are warm & cosy.

MOUSE TRAP depending where they are it could help them to stop mice getting to their food. Its best to ask them first.

PLASTIC BOXES  the type with lids that they can use to keep food in. Only send a couple as you always must keep in mind they dont have much space

SMALL PAINTBRUSH

This can get into tiny crevices of their gun to clean out sand & dirt that gets trapped

ST.CHRISTOPHER

With him being the patron saint of travellers it might be appropriate.

POEMS CARDS and POSTCARDS

You could write your own or send lovely ones you find. Don’t feel scared about trying to do your own as you may surprise yourself as to how well you can do it. Try to write poems. You wont know until you try. This may encourage for one to be written to you. Perhaps you could put your poem in a photo frame to stand by the bedside. If you prefer to then Google ...Love Poems  or  Love Poems For Him. Tons to read and perhaps choose an apt one for the two of you.

Make your own cards. Perhaps funny ones, pretty ones or made up from family photos. If you are very arty then draw your own pictures on them.

WW1 or WW2 items

On the Internet there are so many pictures and very beautiful postcards, poems and cartoons of that or other eras. Print them off and send, as they can be very romantic or humorous.

BUCKET AND SPADE

It sounds daft but we had some friends send these out and get some quite good pics of sand castles back. Well, grit really.

WHODUNIT LETTER

Compose one using quirky methods of cutting out letters and words from magazines. Whodunit? Will they guess it’s you? Ha- ha. Oh well it’s a giggle. Makes a change from the normal way

DIPPY LETTER

Do one as if the car, a golf club, the fridge or another favourite possession writes it.  You could write a letter along a type of theme or a certain profession. E.g. A nurse as medical notes. A doctor as a prescription. A teacher as a school report. A secretary as a memo or a Chef like a menu. The themes are endless.

JIGSAW LETTER OR PHOTO

Cut up a letter or photo…don’t make it too easy….to be put back together. Hopefully complicated so that it takes a while to solve.
