If you have lived abroad with the forces then you may have heard of them.

If you want to send a message by radio then the forces radio station you need is called BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service). BFBS Radio is available in more than 20 countries around the world. The digital HQ in the UK links with stations in , Belize, Brunei, Canada, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Germany, Gibraltar, Nepal, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan.

It is available on Sky TV radio channel 0211 and Freesat channel 786

If you want to, you can post dedications/messages for Birthdays, Anniversaries or for absolutely no reason at all. You choose the date. Your request will be read out during the regular broadcasting. It’s a great way to show how much you miss them.  If you go to the BFBS website and click on messages and requests, you can send your message electronically and they will read it out when they can.

Quite often, especially at times like Christmas, the BFBS team will get out to welfare events and you will be offered to do a live piece for the radio or TV. Your welfare office will be able to tell you which events they will be attending near you.

To leave a voice message, then you can contact the Access All Areas show that is on a Sunday morning. You recording will be played within the show.

It’s always a bit embarrassing to hear yourself talk on radio but they will really love it. A miniscule few may be a bit ragged by their mates! This is probably caused by a touch of envy because the message isn’t for them. Oh well, gives them something to laugh about.
